Warning: The content of this post contains scathing anger directed towards medical personal. If you, or a loved one a is a medical person, please do not be offended. I am ANGRY at a certain person, not all doctors in general.
Ella woke up on Monday morning at 5am with ANOTHER high fever. (Insert expletive here) I made an appointment right away for the following day. The doctor is only in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We suffered through a sleepless night and showed up for our appointment the following day. I explained that she had a very high fever that I was having a hard time controlling and her urine smelled really strong. She also refused to eat. The doctor tried and FAILED to collect urine, did not have the equipment to do so, so sent me home with a PLASTIC BAG and some tape to try and tape to Ella to collect a sample......okay...... She looked in her ears. Tried to look in her throat. Informed me there wasn't anything in there to worry about and sent me on my way. It took until the next day to collect said sample. When I took this tiny cup full of baby pee back to the clinic, I was greeted by some silly, empty head girl who said "like, umm" EVERY OTHER WORD. She told me I would have to wait for the doctor to call me because she didn't know what she was supposed to do with it. Lovely.
SOOO, I wait all day for the doctor to call me and say she didn't know what was wrong but it was probably just a viral infection and she would prescribe me some antibiotics.
I called a doctor in mesquite and went the next day to see her. Nothing wrong with a 2nd opinion, right? Dr. #2 takes lots of time asking questions, looking in nooks and crannies and pronounces her tonsils are extremely swollen. Strep test.... POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!! I am PISSED because she was at a doctor 2 days before and no one did a strep test. NOT A HARD TEST TO DO, MIND YOU!! So she had to suffer 2 extra days with a raging fever and practically starving to death. Dr #2 also confirms she is WAY below weight and I should start pedisure immediately. Dr #1 told me it was no big deal. In actuality, it WAS!! SO, I am currently ANGRY at stupid doctors who don't give a FLYING FRISBEE and just rush through everything. It was an awful, infuriating experience. I am so sad for my daughter who has been sick for, I swear, a month. She feels awful, no one would help her and I have to watch her burn and starve to death.
Am I being over dramatic?.....MAYBE!! I have slept since Saturday and that is NOT AN OVER DRAMATIZATION!!!!

I am so sad you and your little one had to go through this. It is tough for a practitioner who is not used to seeing kids to recognize what's going on. Good for you for taking her to get another opinion.
I am mortified that they sent you home with a cup to collect pee. Wow! And secondly, that the practitioner would prescribe antibiotics if suspected a virus. That's bad practice. And did they not even test for flu? Her urine was concentrated and strong smelling because she was getting dehydrated from the prolonged high fevers. Again, this doctor really should have known this and explained it to you. Good thing I wasn't there, I would have had a few things to say to this person. I sure hope it's no one if know!

I don't think you are over reacting at all! I would be so mad too! That is ridiculous! I have switched pediatricians before because I felt like he could have cared less about my baby, that is not a good feeling!! Thats not how it should be! When Eden was in the ER they tried to do that same urine thing and the cup spilled so they had to do a catheter! It was so sad! I hope Ella feels better soon! It's terrible when they are sick, you can't really give them anything! I'm so sorry!

I hate that pedatrician also!! I used to take Alex to her because of convinience, but decided it was better to go a little out of my way for a better doctor. She's a huge idiot!! Hopefully Ella gets better!!
Welcome to the world of Mothers vs. Doctors!!! It is a nasty game when a doctor does not listen to the Mother. She knows her child best. I am so sorry that Ella is sick again. Since I have had Madison in my home quite a bit latley... and she was sick last weekend I sympathize.

You're totally not being over dramatic! Some people just suck and have their heads to far up their rears to think clearly. Sorry you had to go through that. I hope Ella feels better soon.
P.S. I think you should report this doctor either to the hospital or some kind of medical license place. Yep, that sounds good.
Poor Ella. The worst feeling is watching your little one suffer.
My sister-in-law is a certified herboligist and has an amazing natural remedy for strep and ear infections (you said she had one a couple weeks ago) They make them feel better within hours and clear away the infection within 48 hours. And you don't have to give your baby an antibiotic which runs down their immune system and makes them more likely to get sick again!!!!!
I'm not anti Dr, but if you don't have to deal with Dr's and can give them something natural that works just as good.....why not?!? e-mail me if you want the stuff.
